Board of Directors
Secretary Jaye Jones Elliott, first served as a volunteer and on the board of directors for Dorchester Habitat for Humanity before being hired in August of 2010 as its executive director. Elliott previously served as a volunteer and on the board of directors for Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity in Bluffton, South Carolina. From 1996 to 2009, when she moved to Summerville, she practiced law in Beaufort County and served as a full-time Magistrate Court Judge. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wofford College in 1992 and her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1995. Elliott and her husband, Greg, grew up in Georgetown, South Carolina. Both are currently active members of Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville, where Elliott is currently serving on the Board of Trustees. She is also an active member of the Summerville Rotary Club and serves on the board of directors as a co-secretary.

Treasurer Bob Hervey, has served as the executive director of East Cooper Habitat for Humanity since2008. A retired Certified Public Accountant (CPA) of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, he previously worked as a financial executive for Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, Mass. Prior to that, he worked as senior accountant for Price Waterhouse & Co. and served in the United States Army as first lieutenant and as a special weapons officer. Notably, he received the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service in 1972. Hervey holds a Master of Business Administration in finance from Babson College in Wellesley, Mass., where he graduated cum laude. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the same school, where he studied accounting. For the past six years, he has been involved in home building church mission trips to Honduras. Born in Pearl River, N.Y., Hervey grew up in River Edge, N.J. He currently lives in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Vice President John E. Rhoden, Jr., has been the executive director with Sea Island Habitat for Humanity since 2012. He joined Sea Island Habitat for Humanity with 12 years of non-profit leadership. He previously led two YMCA organizations in South Carolina, having served as president and CEO of the YMCA of Coastal Carolina with branches in Georgetown and Horry Counties, and as CEO of the Summerville Family YMCA in Summerville, S.C. Prior to his non-profit work, Rhoden spent 10 years in the Unites States Air Force as a meteorologist and tactical team leader. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Webster University, located in St. Louis, Missouri, as well as a Bachelor of Science in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, located in Daytona Beach, Florida. Born in Charleston, S.C. to military parents, Rhoden grew up mostly in Florida, Texas and Germany. He currently lives in Johns Island, S.C.

Vice President Jeremy Browning, has been with Charleston Habitat for Humanity since 2000 serving as a volunteer, as a family services committee member, and as an architect of the affiliate’s repair program. Beginning in June 2005, he became the organization’s executive director. Prior to this, he taught community engagement and urban planning at the College of Charleston. Browning holds a Ph.D. in Urban Studies and Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree in the same field from San Diego State University, while his Bachelor of Science in Urban Geography is from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. Born and raised in Glasgow, Browning came to the United States for graduate studies. He has lived in Charleston since 1994 and resides in West Ashley.
